We all struggle with doubt to varying degrees. It seems to be one of those pesky characteristics that underlie the human condition. Doubt, defined as “a feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality, or nature of something” works overtime in contradiction to our deep inner knowing about who we are, our potential, our path and our truth. You could say that doubt is Kryptonite to your Soul’s expression.
“There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills.” -Buddha
Doubt is effectively saying “I don’t trust myself. I don’t trust life. I don’t trust the Universe. I don’t trust Oneness with all that is.”
Doubt shows up as resistance, feeling not good enough, negative self-talk and fear. You try to move forward and your subconscious mind throws doubt at you to stop you in your tracks. And of course, it’s effective! Who can move forward with Superhero courage and confidence when doubt is simultaneously hijacking your thoughts and making you question every move you make.
I visualize Superman heading into a telephone booth with a bubble over his head His thoughts read “I wonder if these leotards make me look like a tool…I hope I don’t have to lift cars off anyone tonight. I’m feeling really tired. I got my ass kicked from that Lex Luther guy. I sent Lois a text earlier and she never responded. I’m such a loser, what could she possibly see in me? I should give up this superhero gig. I’m just kidding myself.”
It’s doubtful that Superman or any of the Marvel hero’s would allow negative thinking to poison their mission. When it comes to saving lives, there is no room for doubt.
The truth is…when it comes to doing your purpose and building a life of fulfillment, there is no room for doubt there either.
You are Source/God/Universal Intelligence having a human experience. To the degree that you get that (via your consciousness, acceptance and faith) is the degree to which you can manifest a life demonstrative of this truth. Doubt has no place in knowing yourself as Source!
So what is the antidote to doubt? FAITH. TRUTH. DEEP KNOWING.
Robert A Russell, the author of ‘God Works Through Faith’ says in his book:
“As students of Truth, we must work for the highest and most complete state of faith, for faith is the wire along which Omnipotence moves. In that state, there is no longer anything in us to deny, doubt, or divide the Truth that we affirm.
We shall never perfect our faith, however, by talking about it, reading about it, waiting for it or wishing for it; we perfect it by applying it to every phase of our living, to the little as well as to big problems in our lives.
Faith is not just a stirring-up of the imagination. It is an actual power which acts upon our words. It enables us to see things as God sees them, without blur or distortion.
Faith not only leads man into a definite course of action but opens the way for the Power to flow along the uncongested circuits of his thought. No longer hampered by doubts, fears, and worries, man becomes, as Emerson says, the “inlet and the outlet for all that there is in God.” The highest faith is whole, continuous, triumphant, and victorious. It admits no contrary evidence, no fear, no opposition, no separation, and no limitation.”
Let me repeat the last sentence: It admits no contrary evidence, no fear, no opposition, no separation and no limitation.
We bring the limitation through our false thinking. As Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t – you’re right.”
Being a student of truth and working to develop a deep knowing builds faith over time. We are all powerful creators either creating from our subconscious (limitation, lack, drama and blame) or from our divine essence (expansion, possibility, infinite abundance and power). Every day we have freedom of choice about which ‘operating system’ to use.
We all have unlimited potential. The difference in how we create the circumstances of our life lies in our knowing (consciousness) and application (choices we make). WE are the filter for how everything gets expressed. If we are expressing small thinking and allowing doubt to infiltrate our world, then that becomes our reality. If we are pursuing Truth and developing discipline of thought while working to strengthen our faith, then we will create a life in resonance to an expanded state of being.
Doubt does not serve us. It chokes our creative spirit and plants seeds of limitation in us when in truth we are a divine vessel of infinite possibility.
If you KNOW this, what is there to doubt?
