In King Arthur literature, The Holy Grail is a vessel that serves as an important motif. Different traditions describe it as a cup, dish or stone with miraculous powers that provide happiness, eternal youth or sustenance in infinite abundance.
Today, we use the term “holy grail” to talk about something we pursue or seek out for its great significance.
Now, I probably spend more time contemplating this as a metaphor for life then the average person. (Or at least that’s how it appears to me through conversations with others.)
In the work I do with clients, I am constantly asking them “What do you want to create in your life? What are you seeking? What would allow you to have an experience of feeling fully alive, deeply connected so you can create a life that truly matters?”
I ask these questions because they are the driving force behind our belief systems, thoughts, emotions and behaviors. If we don’t have awareness of what drives us or know where we are going – there is a huge disconnect within our internal operating system AND a very small chance that we will ever get there. (Wherever ‘there’ is.)
And often people share with me that they don’t know. Some even say they haven’t thought about it before (This always brings a feeling of shock to me…like HOW can you be alive and not think about what you want to do with your life or your time on this planet!?!)
I feel like I came out of the womb contemplating that question and it’s been a driving force in my life every step of the way. I’m frequently told that I’m not normal. I think it’s meant as a compliment? (Or not…either way. I am who I am!)
The point is we are collectively hurling through space on this giant Rock traveling past billions of star systems in our Galaxy and it’s helpful to stop the chaotic influx of activity coming at us every single moment of every day and really reflect on:
What do I want to create? What would fulfill me?
Now when you ask that question, your mind will begin to play tricks on you and start listing off your ‘Dear Santa’ list. “I would like a new house, a new car, a new husband or wife, new clothes, buckets of money, etc. etc. “
And that would be completely missing the point of the exercise.
Those are things and really not what you are in pursuit of!
If you were able to manifest your shopping list, it wouldn’t take long before the ‘new’ became ‘same-tired-familiar and old’ and you’d be in search of a different level of ‘newness’.
What we are really seeking is the emotional essence behind the thing (object, person, situation or event).
We don’t truly want paper to play with (or one’s and zero’s to stare at on a screen)…15 minutes of rolling around in our 20 dollar bills or sifting through bank ledgers and Profit and Loss Statements and we’d be bored.
We want the feelings of abundance, freedom of choice and security.
We don’t necessarily want a new husband or wife, we want connection, to feel nurtured, supported and loved.
We want the experience.
We’ve all been misled to believe that the thing represents the experience and it doesn’t!
The thing will never (by itself) give you what you seek.
It is your intention + the interaction that YOU bring that will ultimately result in what you’re creating.
My Soul seeks to fully Embody the Experiences of BEING ALIVE.
I can’t do that by ‘knowing’ something on an intellectual level. I can only really experience it by embracing the essence and having it become a part of my physical embodiment.
“Delight is the sense of freedom that emerges from an appreciation of the richness of being alive.”
I begin with Contemplation. (Which according to Richard Rudd, creator of the Gene Keys), looks like this:
Everyone has a different Holy Grail – this is just an example of mine:
There are two aspects to life — being and becoming. You are absorbed in becoming, which is powerful, limitless, and ever-changing. However, underneath the surface of your busy life lies the deep secret of being, which never changes and puts everything into real perspective. You need to take time to simply rest in the wonderful sense of relaxedness. This Gift of yours brings a lightness to the sometimes over-serious aspects of life in manifestation. To rest in your being requires that you slow down more, take more deep breaths into your belly, and look around more at the beauty that surrounds you. Ultimately, when you come to the end of your life, these are the moments you will treasure above all your achievements.
Along the way, you need to forget all about the purpose of your life. You are not here to waste valuable time worrying about such things. You are not a head person, even though your mind may be sharp. You are here to swim wherever life’s currents take you. Your grail is experience itself. If your life teaches you anything, let it be this — you cannot take anything with you when you go, so enjoy, appreciate, and be constantly grateful for every twist and turn your life takes. Make the very most out of the cards you are dealt. If you hold even a single regret, you will miss your purpose. You are such a fortunate person to be born with this kind of a destiny. Take great care not to waste it. (46th and 10th Gene Key)
So as you move forward today, I encourage you to Contemplate – What is your Holy Grail?
What is the essence behind what you seek?
How can you shift your relationship to creating true fulfillment in life?
